All are equal before Covid-19; Govt must disallow VIPs from jumping queue

The Covid-19 coronavirus does not know how to discriminate anybody irrespective of status, race, religion or background. The government must strictly implement the vaccination in accordance with the original plan and disallow people from skipping the queue.

Reports have emerged that there have been VIPs and their families who allegedly jumped the queue to secure priority in obtaining the inoculation against Covid-19.

According to the government’s announcement, the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme will be conducted in three phases. Phase 1 will involve frontliners such as medical personnel; Phase 2 is intended for the elderly and high-risk groups, while Phase 3 will cover adults aged 18 years and above. These arrangements have been allocated based on the degree of need.

For example, frontliners are in most direct contact with afflicted patients, while high-risk groups have a high chance of falling sick and succumbing to this deadly infectious disease. Hence, they are given priority in receiving the jab. People who are not in need are not a priority and thus, should not take shortcuts to get vaccinated.

The government must strictly enforce the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme as per the initial plan to ensure there nobody skips the line for personal benefit. This would only be fair to everyone in Malaysia who has registered for the vaccination.
