News release by Penang MCA Organising Secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong

Dr Tan Chuan Hong: Penang MCA contributes wheelchairs & admits DAP for medical treatment!

Penang MCA Organising Secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong criticised the DAP-led Penang state government for being unable to abolish the Sungai Nyior toll in Butterworth but has paid RM305 million for state’s undersea tunnel project concessionaires in advance without any feasibility study report.

“Saying one thing and doing another and brain disorder are both serious illnesses,” Dr Tan blasted before suggesting that “therefore, Penang MCA would like to contribute wheelchairs to them and admit them to hospital to seek treatment for ‘speaking in one way and behaving in another.’

Dr Tan Chuan Hong also criticized the one Chief Minister and two EXCOs in the Bagan parliamentary constituency who have abandoned their promises. “They choose not to abolish the Sungai Nyior toll but they just simply want to discredit the BN government and fish for votes.”

He also asserted that “the essence of DAP is ‘shameless’ and ‘making random promises’ just to secure official position. But after it took power in Penang, it still continued to mislead. DAP has created history by having a Chief Minister cum EXCO from Bagan who have been accused of and charged with corruption for the first ever in Penang’s history.”

“If DAP loves its voters, it will not trample on them. But breaching promises seems to be only a trivial matter to DAP's Chief Minister cum EXCO in Bagan.”

Questioning DAP, Dr Tan Chuan Hong pointed out, “DAP claims it has fully controlled Penang. But why (1) before it took power in 2008 - on 25 February 2007, it promised to abolish the Sungai Nyior toll if it won one parliamentary seat and three state seats in Bagan; (2) when it won in Penang, on 21 March 2008, it promised to abolish it within 5 years; (3) it promised again on 10 April 2008 that it abolish it within 3 years. But why is it still unable to fulfil its  promise after ruling Penang for 9 years?”

Dr Tan Chuan Hong believes the answer is, ‘one chief minister and two EXCOs in Bagan are not willing to do it, don't want to do it, and don't wish to do it.’ The Penang state government boasts that it earns a lot of money. It certainly can use the money to abolish the toll. But ironically, so far the toll station still exists! On the contrary, eventhough BN never promised to abolish the tolls, the Prime Minister ‘can do it’ and abolish 4 tolls in Budget 2018 for Malaysia.” He added that “this also reflects BN ‘is willing to do it, wants to do it, and can do it.’ BN's policy involves loving the people and never boasting.”

Tan Chuan Hong lamented, “the Penang state government is simply a bandit. This is because after it swapped the ‘land’ for ‘tunnel’ ridiculously, it continues to allow developers to collect toll.” Highlighting the differences in Penang under administration of DAP as opposed to BN, he snarled “Compared to BN which lets developers collect tolls to make up for the construction cost, the Penang government benefits from the developers and afflicts the people.”
