Press release on Perhimpunan MCA-GERAKAN Teguh Bersama

MCA-GERAKAN Stronger Together Assembly on 6 Jan 2018 to reflect the unity of our 2 parties in upholding moderation

MCA and Parti Gerakan will be jointly organising a “Perhimpunan MCA-GERAKAN Teguh Bersama” at Dewan San Choon, Wisma MCA on 6 January 2018 (Saturday). Leaders from both political parties from the central to local levels have been invited to participate.

This gathering is aimed at strengthening the good working relationship between MCA and GERAKAN, to express our two parties’ commitment and determination in jointly preparing for the general elections, and to present the achievements by both. The two parties will also take the opportunity to show and defend our country’s distinguished diversity, and to uphold our government's administration and practice of moderation in policies.

MCA and GERAKAN have a very long experience of cooperation under the structure of Barisan Nasional especially in upholding the governance of moderation and multi-racialism. Both parties share the mission of confronting extremism and safeguarding the rights of non-Muslims, and our cooperation has yielded effective results.

In the last 2 months, MCA President Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai and GERAKAN President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong have led their teams from both parties and held 5 discussions. We have good consensus.  Strategies have been drawn on how to strengthen the rights and opportunities of the Chinese community, to ensure that the Chinese community plays a greater role in the nation’s vision for development.

Our goal is not only to unite the Chinese community, but to unite all rakyat. As a starting point, MCA and GERAKAN are willing to be an example with the cooperation of “MCA-GERAKAN Teguh Bersama.” Together we contribute a positive energy towards nation building and development, and to resist all negative emotions of divisiveness and extremism.

This rally will be very meaningful as it is the first time in recent years, which demonstrates the strong bonds between our 2 parties with the goal of developing the country. Dato’ Sri Liow and Datuk Seri Mah will deliver their speech at the rally. 2000 participants consisting of central, state and local leaders from both parties are expected to attend the rally.
