60th Merdeka bound! All spirits high at MCA Youth Amazing Rail & Walk a Hunt Flagging Off Ceremony

MCA Hq, 11 Aug – Enthusiastic Malaysians of all ages had converged at Wisma MCA to participate in the Amazing Rail and Walk a Hunt programme covering rail and walking paths organised by MCA Youth as part of festivities by the party in commemoration of Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day.



The mild showers did not damper the spirit of the 300+ participants from throughout Malaysia as all were boisterous in bright orange and Merdeka blue hued t-shirts for participants and group leaders or committee members respectively with imprints of Kuala Lumpur landmarks. They came, prepared with pontoons too during the flagging off ceremony which commenced from 10:30am at the party’s headquarters.

MCA Youth Chairman Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon flagged off the participants. In his pep talk prior to flagging off the participants, Sin Woon explained the three-throng purpose of the day’s programme.

Firstly, the “Amazing Rail” hopes that participants will new perspective of KL. “Even in Kuala Lumpur, the public seldom notices. By taking public transport, people will see a brand new and modern perspective of Kuala Lumpur.”

The “Amazing Rail” concludes its course at Petaling Street, to which Sin Woon explained “is significant on the Chinese contributions.” He added that, “normally people go to Petaling Street for shopping and food. But the ‘Amazing Rail’ enables participants to see historical landmarks in Kuala Lumpur via the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) not usually noticed by members of the public.”


Secondly, Sin Woon who is also the Deputy Minister of Education, informed that the “Amazing Rail is a patriotic gathering where there will be a song composition competition.”

Thirdly, the evening’s conclusion at Petaling Street will feature Malaysia’s icon of unity cum three-time Olympic silver medalist Dato’ Lee Chong Wei cum fellow shuttler who also bagged Malaysia’s first medal at the Olympics for mixed badminton double Goh Liu Ying. The duo will be handing signed badminton racquets. Members of the public are required to register with the organisers to be in the run for the lucky draw.

For MCA Youth Vice Chairman Nicole Wong, the “Amazing Rail is a good experience with public transport, particularly for Malaysia’s 60th Merdeka, the public transport is well developed, especially this year 2017.” She elaborated that the “cultural landmarks and local food spots are the main highlight of the Amazing Rail. It is hoped that from today’s experience, partipants will thence share the sights with their friends.”
 
Exuding pride that the “Amazing Rail” has gathered many new participants from outstation as well as locals to Kuala Lumpur have new perspective of the nation’s capital via rail links, Sin Woon conveyed that “even in KL, the public seldom notices the historical landmarks.”

Sharing the same sentiments was Kenny Phang, an MCA PJ Utara Youth Committee Member. “I am moved at the strong response from the participants from different states converging in Kuala Lumpur. It shows we stay together to ensure the success of a common cause.” Phang explained that he was informed about this activity from their MCA Youth Whatsapp Chat group as well as promotional materials from the MCA Facebook.”

This activity will familiarise partipants especially those from outstation on the convenience usage of public transport to appreciate the historical landmarks and local cuisine delights.
