Press statement by MCA Spokesperson Mike Chong Yew Chuan

Public’s quality of life improves with MRT2 Putrajaya Line

Phase 1 of the Mass Rapid Transit 2 (MRT2) Putrajaya Line is scheduled to commence operations for the public from 3pm on June 16 (tomorrow).

Phase 1 of the MRT2 involves 12 stations. Beginning with the Kwasa Damansara Station in Damansara, its 17.5 kilometre route concludes at the Kampung Batu Station in Sentul.

9 new stations will be opened. They are: Damansara Damai, Sri Damansara Barat, Sri Damansara Sentral, Sri Damansara Timur, Metro Prima, Kepong Baru, Jinjang, Sri Delima and Kampung Batu. Meanwhile,  three stations that were previously part of the Kajang Line MRT are Kwasa Damansara, Kampung Selamat and Sungai Buloh.

This service is expected to have a daily ridership of about 30,000 passengers besides reducing traffic congestion, especially in Kepong and the surrounding areas.

The operation of MRT2 Putrajaya has definitely been awaited by Malaysians as in addition to lessening traffic jams, it will also boost the nation's economy.

Malaysians are urged to make the best use of these facilities. Do not commit vandalism because not only will such actions affect the operations of this service, they also spark a negative perception among tourists who utilise public transport.

Acknowledgments should also be accorded to all personnel and agencies of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) under the leadership of Datuk Seri Ir. Dr Wee Ka Siong as they prioritise public interest first as evidenced with the construction of public transport infrastructure projects to ensure the rakyat enjoy better connectivity via an efficient transportation system.

This is unlike the previous 'anti-public transport' Pakatan Harapan administration which had cancelled or postponed or downsized public transport infrastructure projects.

It is hoped that Malaysians will maximise the benefits from this development undertaken by the government.
