Press statement by MCA Youth Spokesperson Ryan Ho Kwok Xheng

Non-interference in probes by enforcement agencies - Hope no more cases involving allies dropped which create negative perception against government

MCA Youth welcomes the statement by YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement that enforcement agencies and the judiciary will remain independent under this government and that his administration will not interfere in any investigations by enforcement agencies nor will it subscribe to using pressure on its opponents.

The premier’s announcement indicates the government’s firmness on the move by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to freeze Bersatu’s bank account given allegations that the party held more than RM300 million in its bank account.

All quartres including Bersatu, need to respect this decision. Allow MACC to carry out its duties unhindered to investigate reports filed with the enforcement agency.

Meanwhile, many also hope that the government will not practise double standards in its non-interference policy which should be applied across the board.

The rakyat shudder a repeat of the same incidents whereby cases involving DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng and several others involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders were dropped under the administration of the then Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, after PH captured Putrajaya in 2018.

It is the earnest hopes of MCA Youth that the words uttered by Dato’ Seri Anwar will be implemented transparently whereby no individual is immune from the law, akin to the expression, "Justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done."
