Repeated environment problems & disasters under Pakatan-helmed Selangor indicate an “Ubah” in administration is needed




Considering that Selangor state ruled by Pakatan Harapan (PH) is undergoing one environment issue or disaster or impending catastrophe after another, it is time for Selangor voters to considering an “Ubah” of the state government from PH back to BN.

14 years has been enough for PH to prove that they could bring “Reformasi” to the richest state in Malaysia. Unfortunately, they have not been able to deliver the desired results which they have “syiok sendiri” in their environment pledges or announcements to the public.

The public outrage over the degazette of the Kuala Langat North Forest Research and the Bukit Cerakah Forest Reserve, the public outrage fell on deaf ears as evidenced with 27 plots of the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve measuring 887 hectares or 27 football fields being excised for quarrying, rock blasting.

People are concerned that the effects from deforestation will lead to further incapacitating floods in Selangor.

Meanwhile, floods and dry taps are a strange combination as encountered in Penang and Selangor should not look forward to such a mishap.

Haven’t Selangor and by default, the Klang Valley suffered enough in the last 4 years over unscheduled water cuts arising from pollution at the water sources of Sungai Selangor, Sungai Gong at Rawang caused by illegal factories discharging chemical effluents.

Despite the Selangor PH state government having spent RM2 million to purchase 4 drones for surveillance at river basins to deter would-be pollutants, and even established a Selangor Water Resources Pollution Emergency Committee under Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS), contamination of rivers in Selangor persist.

The latest incident has shifted from Rawang to Kajang. Frothy white substances flowing in Sungai Kabul  were detected at 11.30am on Saturday (Oct 1) allegedly emanating from two factories in Beranang after substances resembling the pollutants in Sungai Kabul were found on their premises.

Although, there were no unscheduled shutdown of water treatment plants, residential and commercial water consumers in the vicinity would have concerns over the quality and hygiene of the said water flowing into their taps.
