Press statement by MCA Youth Chairman cum Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon
Claiming other’s credit as his own under broad day light, Guan Eng is a low-level politician
Reference is made to DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng’s statement that MCA needed DAP to lobby for allocation for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, I cannot help but label Guan Eng as a low-level politician as he, having never shown interest in government’s grant for TAR UC before, had now jumped out to say that it was DAP who had lobbied on MCA’s behalf for government grant for TAR UC, shamelessly claiming other’s credit as theirs under broad day light.
With MCA as a member of the ruling BN coalition, the government had been assisting in TAR College’s operational expenses under a Ringgit-to-Ringgit basis since its inception, until 2013 when it was upgraded to a university college status, and an agreement was then reached between the institution and the government, to modify the grant as an annual grant not exceeding RM60 million.
To the MPs’ enquiries, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) had in its statement clarified that the RM30 million grant meant for TAR UC was not missing as claimed by DAP, but replaced under the Ministry’s Management Sector instead of operational expenditure, to comply with the latest Ministry of Finance’s guideline for budgets. That was why it was not itemised under Budget 2018.
Lim Guan Eng had deified DAP’s Rasah MP, as if Teo Kok Seong was so powerful that, by merely making an enquiry in the Parliament, he could get the MoHE to make available RM30 million grant within days. Such a statement is typical of Guan Eng as an opportunistic low-level politician, whose only aim is to mislead the people and belittle MCA.
Guan Eng always shouts for equality and justice but never walks the talk. He only glorifies Kok Seong but has conspicuously forgotten MCA Tanjung Piai MP Dato’ Sri Wee Jeck Seng, who also made the same enquiry on the same day in Parliament.
If Guan Eng insists on giving credit to Kok Seong, then he should also applaud Jeck Seng. Obviously, Guan Eng and DAP are only keen on cheap publicity in sensationalising education issues to negate MCA.
