Press statement by MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon

Is DAP making Hew Kuan Yau the sole scapegoat? What about the officials: Anthony Loke, Teo Nie Ching, Tan Kok Wai?

The “Belt & Road Initiative For Win-Winism” comic book is now officially banned by the Home Ministry. However, the government has yet to answer: One, why can the comic book be distributed to schools without getting prior approval from the Education Ministry? Two, how did the book bypass protocols to be gifted to the Chinese President Xi Jinping?

As the author, Hew Kuan Yau definitely bears the most responsibility for penning the comic’s content. Thus, with the ongoing probe and the banning of the book, Hew is already paying the price of his folly.

However, Hew Kuan Yau alone would never have been able to bring this comic book into schoolgrounds, much less offer it as a souvenir for the Chinese premier. Hence, it is logical to infer the involvement of a high official, especially Ministers or their Deputy Ministers.

According to Hew Kuan Yau’s Facebook post, the Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching had met with him, and received a copy of the tri-lingual “Belt and Road Initiative” comic book; in a separate post, Hew also expressed his gratitude towards Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Special Envoy to China Tan Kok Wai for their help leading to the gifting of said comic book to Xi Jinping.

All that being said, why is Hew Kuan Yau facing the music alone to the point of resignation? Are DAP leaders only capable of beating around the bush and keeping quiet? Is DAP’s strategy to have Hew act as the scapegoat to absolve the party and its ministers from judgment?

I urge Anthony Loke, Teo Nie Ching, Tan Kok Wai to immediately speak out regarding this issue.
