GoCare to assist B40 students apply for free smartphone and data

GoCare Crowdfunding adviser Dato’ Natalie Lim Chong Ly pointed out that the Covid-19 has necessitated an online model of education. However, this drives up the financial burden on many families, and in response, GoCare has concluded preparations to assist B40 students register a free phone and data.

GoCare Crowdfunding acts in tandem with the Program Jaringan PRIHATIN implemented by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and YTL Foundation’s Learn From Home Initiative to help B40 students apply for a free phone and data.

“Due to Covid-19, the subsequent Movement Control Order enforced to curb infection has also thrown a wrench at conventional education methods, constraining all teaching and learning to be done online. Cloud and home learning have become the new normal for most parts of the world. Nonetheless, after a year of online classes, many students living in poverty or rural areas are unable to keep up with this teaching mode considering how they couldn’t afford a smartphone and monthly data in the first place.

After MOF launched Program Jaringan PRIHATIN, YTL Foundation has announced plans to provide free smartphones and free data without contract. These plans run till September 30.

GoCare targets to reach and help 10,000 B40 students to take advantage of these plans, and hope they can be expanded to include more underprivileged families to ensure no one is left behind on the digitalisation of education.

We urge members of the public to help propagate this message so more B40 students can benefit from these plans. For more details or to register, please visit https://gocare.org.my/product/free-phones/ or contact the GoCare hotline at 016-5399178.
