Press statement by MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon

Everyone welcome to join in festivities for MCA's annual CNY Open House on Chor 1

Keeping to tradition, MCA will organise our annual Chinese New Year (CNY) Open House on 22 January 2023 (Chor 1) at 9:30 a.m., whereby celebrations will be held in Dewan San Choon, Wisma MCA. As we usher in the Year of the Water Rabbit, MCA welcomes all Malaysians to join us in this joyous occasion.

The Chinese New Year is one of the most important festivals observed by the Chinese, as it signifies the return of Spring, and a renewal of all things. In Malaysia’s multicultural society, the celebration of the Chinese New Year is shared by all ethnicities.

As is tradition, MCA opens its doors on the first day of Chinese New Year to welcome visitors and guests, as we wish for a year that brings great health, stability and prosperity for the nation.

With the COVID-19 pandemic now slowing down, the public may now resume the tradition of Chinese New Year visitations. Last year, as a precaution against the pandemic, our Open House was restricted to invited guests. However, with the pandemic situation under control, we are once again welcoming everyone to our Open House to celebrate together.

In all previous years, the Malaysian Prime Minister was always the main VIP at our CNY Open House. This year, we have also received confirmation that Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and spouse Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah will be attending on that day.

Other VIPs attending include BN component party leaders, government leaders, MCA veterans, corporate industry leaders, Chinese guild leaders, heads of foreign missions, etc.

There will be a Lion Dance performance and light refreshments served on that day.
