THOSE who love the arts – be it performing arts or the visual variety – should not miss the Blossom Arts Festival Malaysia this year.

From theatrical shows, dances, orchestras to photography and art exhibitions; there is a little bit of everything to suit everyone’s taste.

Throughout June this year, Wisma MCA’s doors will be opened to some 100 groups and societies to showcase their talents to the public during this month-long festival.

The stage in Dewan San Choon with be the host to renowned local and foreign performances throughout the month.

It will feature personalities such as Indian classical dance expert Datuk Ramli Ibrahim as well as dance troupes from the Aswara Dance Company and the Temple of Fine Arts.

Those who appreciate performances with a cultural element will enjoy the likes of folk dances from the Han Fong Dance Ensemble and traditional Chinese tunes from the Professional Cultural Chinese Orchestra.

Prize money is also up for grabs for aspiring shutterbugs and filmmakers and the public can get to see their nominated works on display during the exhibition.

The festival’s organising chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said the event allowed Malaysians to enjoy and appreciate the artistic community in the country.

“We hope that people of all races will support the festival and work together with us to develop arts and culture in Malaysia,” said Chew, after she unveiled a giant banner above Wisma MCA last Monday.

Events during the month-long festival are grouped into four categories: Arts Exhibition, Culture and Folk Activities, Visual Arts and Performances.

The festival is organised by the Malaysian Chinese Culture and Arts Consultative Council and MCA, with the support of the Tourism and Culture Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

Admission to the exhibitions are free, but shows held inside Dewan San Choon require tickets.

Visitors can buy individual tickets or multiple entry passes at RM80 (three shows), RM120 (five shows) and RM450 (20 shows).
