Wanita MCA National Chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie is confident that Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid will help the women of Kuala Kangsar if she wins the by-election today.

Heng, who is also the Adviser on National Unity & Integration in the Prime Minister’s Department, visited Mastura on Wednesday with several leaders of women’s NGOs from Kuala Kangsar to show their support and love for the late Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il’s wife.

“As women, we know and understand, at this difficult time, she needs support. Women must support women. We must motivate her, support her and make sure she wins.

“Her motto is simple – to carry on the vision and mission of the late Datuk Wan. Whatever plans he had for Kuala Kangsar, she will fight for it.

“Everybody here is concerned for her since she is undergoing Iddah, the period a woman must observe after the death of her spouse. We had this gathering just to tell her that she is not alone. All of us are with her,” Heng said to reporters after the visit.

She said Mastura is popular among the people in Kuala Kangsar and whenever the late Wan Mohammad Khair-il went out to serve, she always accompanied him.

“She is inclusive, liberal and open minded. More than that, she is a woman of the people. She will surely do wonders for the women here.”

Mastura spoke to them for almost 20 minutes and urged the NGO leaders to help her woo voters to come out and vote today.

“It was nice to see you all here. It has been not an easy time because I’m a single mother now. I would like to thank all of you for coming down.

“We women love our husbands. Just like any wife, I want to continue my husband’s work and just like my husband, I love the people of Kuala Kangsar too.”

Mastura said she will be coming out to vote but after that, she will immediately return back to her house and wait for the result, which is expected to be announced at night.
