DAP should come clean on Syariah Court Bill and stop misleading the rakyat

I wonder what is the difference between supporting Parti Amanah Negara’s version of Hudud and PAS’ version of proposed changes to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965? Both are the same which at the end lead to implementation of Hudud law in the states and then Malaysia.

DAP has lost its moral compass when it said it is against PAS’ version of Hudud, only to be contradicted and corrected by Amanah when its Communications Director Khalid Samad admitted that both DAP and PKR have agreed in principle to Amanah’s motion on empowering Syariah punishments (Free Malaysia Today, 17 Oct 2016).

The late Karpal Singh had famously remarked on ‘an Islamic state over my dead body’. But it seems the current leadership of DAP, if Khalid Samad is right in what he said, has betrayed the trust of the people when the latter asked the non-Muslim community to support Amanah.

DAP must not shift the goal post to fulfil its agenda of getting Malay votes by playing this dangerous game. Unlike MCA which has been consistent in its fight against Hudud implementation, and also against the enhancement of the Act 355 legislation that will further empower the Syariah Courts to impose unlimited punishments and eventually lead to Hudud given the loose end nature of the Syariah Court Bill’s sentencing enhancement.

We call on DAP to make its stand clear and do not toy around with such ideas in its effort to capture votes.
