Mun Kit says he is happy to be reunited with his three-year-old daughter Xin Yue.

A COBBLER has been reunited with his three-year-old daughter a week after she was taken by his Vietnamese wife.

Loh Mun Kit, 39, said his daughter, Xin Yue, was found together with her mother Nguyen Thi Xuyen, 36, in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 1.

“She informed her friend to call me about their whereabouts.

“From there, we settled our differences amicably and decided to get a divorce,” Mun Kit said during a press conference held by Perak MCA Public Service and Complaints Bureau chief Jimmy Loh at the Perak MCA headquarters in Ipoh on Tuesday.

“My family will assist me in taking care of my daughter,” he added.

Mun Kit’s daughter was reported to have been taken away by his Vietnamese wife on Nov 24.

The incident is said to have happened after an argument and between Mun Kit and Nguyen.

Mun Kit said he is relieved now that his daughter is back by his side.

“I was so afraid that her mother would take her to Vietnam and I would not see her again,” he said, adding that his daughter suffers from convulsion and requires medication daily.

“I would like to thank MCA, the police and those who helped me locate my little girl,” he said.

“If Nguyen wants to come back here to visit our daughter, I will not stop her from doing so as she is the mother,” he added.

Bureau legal adviser Chan Sing Khuen, who was also present, said anyone who is married to a foreigner and plans to get a divorce should try to settle the matter amicably.

“As in this case, the parents need to discuss matters and reach an agreement on who takes custody of the child.

“They needed to sign custodial and divorce papers before going their separate ways,” he said.

“If no documents are signed, then by law, the child will follow the mother,” he added.
