Since PH won’t shut down Lynas, Wong Tack has only 1 option left

Since Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad has announced that the government has decided not to shut down the Lynas rare earth processing plant but to allow its operations to continue, DAP Bentong MP Wong Tack’s only option is to continue fighting according to his stand until the government shuts down Lynas, or be prepared to tender his resignation letter for failing to live up to the rakyat’s hopes.

Tun Dr. Mahathir has clearly stated the government’s stand to allow Lynas’ operations. In an attempt to save his own skin, Wong Tack has chosen to manipulate his words instead of being a responsible politician and answering to the environmental groups and rakyat who were once comrades with him.

When Pakatan Harapan was still the opposition, they had tirelessly droned on the Lynas and the rare earth issue, especially Wong Tack, spearheading DAP to siege on Lynas, proclaiming the disastrous effects of Lynas to the environment. Yet, as PH settles into Putrajaya, their attitudes have done a 180° turnaround, praising Lynas to be Malaysia’s game changer by drawing in investments.

Still, the punchline remains to be Wong Tack’s high-spirited protests against Lynas, complete with banners and slogans; all while DAP Cabinet Ministers are reaching the decision to allow Lynas’ continued operations. Does the government think the rakyat is dumb enough to be fooled by these political farces?

Wong Tack is shamefully betraying his own principles and integrity. When he was still a layman, he vowed to shut down Lynas; now that he’s a government official, his narrative has conveniently switched to accepting Lynas as long as it abides by the law.

Before being elected, Wong Tack was all fired up, claiming to set fire to Lynas if the government does not shut it down, or to resign otherwise.  However, his “turning over a new leaf” today puts him in the spotlight as an empty shell who was merely riding the waves of environmental protection, a politician without a heart.

Wong Tack has trampled on the aspirations of Bentong locals, the least he could do now is to resign.
