Speech by YB Senator Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun,

2016 Blossoms Arts Festival Malaysia Chairman

On the Occasion of the “Line Dance for All”

5 June 2016

A very good evening to all dance enthusiasts, welcome everyone to our Wisma MCA to participate in one of the many programmes of the 2016 Blossoms Arts Festival Malaysia, that is the “Line Dance for All.”

Dancing is a combination of arts as well as a group sports activity. Line dancing is a form of sports combining arts and exercise where the tune, steps and modern music in synergy could help promote a sense of unity, apart from building up healthy bodies.

This evening, the “Line Dance for All” is organised by the Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) Dance Committee and sponsored by the Malaysia Chinese Culture and Arts Consultative Council. The Blossom Arts Festival Malaysia hopes more people will engage in such activities and see for themselves its popularity, while also getting to watch many cultural and arts exhibitions and activities concurrently running at the venue.

I recall that in 2003 when I was the Member of Parliament for PJU, I noticed the popularity of line dance among the local folks. This prompted me to initiate and assist in setting up the PJU Line Dance Committee to promote such an activity among the local community. Today, it is heartening to observe that line dancing is a very popular activity and easily accessible to the masses.

I believe everyone here are arts and line dance enthusiasts. Let us start the dance and enjoy the excitement of line dance.

In addition to this evening’s activity, dance enthusiasts are most welcome to explore the concurrent art exhibitions being held as well as try the activities being carried out. Do enjoy the culture and arts programmes which we have brought to you.

Thank you!
