MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, MALAYSIA

Liow: MH17 Criminals Must Be Brought to Justice

Two years ago, 298 lives were lost in a senseless and unjust crime that saw the downing of flight MH17.

Together with our fellow members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ukraine, we remain wholly committed and determined in our pursuit to bring justice to the criminals responsible for the loss of so many innocent lives.

With JIT’s criminal investigations ongoing, we hope to receive the preliminary conclusions on the forensic research conducted, including on the type of weapon that was used and other pertinent details, by the later part of this year. The Government of Malaysia hopes the international community will continue to lend us their support in ensuring the perpetrators of this tragedy are held accountable for their actions.

Once again, we reiterate our call for safer skies around the world. International cooperation must be strengthened in order to improve security standards in civil aviation, including the implementation of real time global tracking of commercial aircraft as well as addressing the risks to civil aviation arising from conflict zones.

As we mark the second year anniversary of the MH17 tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with the next-of-kin of the victims. Rest assured the Government of Malaysia will not give up in our quest to ensure justice prevails.
