Press Statement by MCA Vice-President Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun

Plotting malevolent political agenda sees Zam Maidin stepping on BN component parties

Ex-Information Minister Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin’s claims that “MCA is dead and waiting to be buried in the 14th General Election” shows that he is scheming some kind of malevolent political agenda, which is to lift up his political Master Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.

It is important for politicians to have certain personality traits which enables one to refrain from doing anything outrageous and simply spew verbal garbage.

We are not the least bit interested to be involved in the infighting within other parties. In fact since MCA’s formation, MCA and other BN component parties have worked together for more than 60 years, upholding the stance of the Merdeka Alliance, while marching forward together in developing national policies and solving crucial issues in the country. MCA has its own principle on certain issues as well as is committed towards correcting or guiding the wrong back onto the right track.

Even so, we must admit that the prosperity and decline of BN component parties are inter-related. All BN component parties share the same fate as we are on the same boat.

Not only have we to do self-examination on the weakening of MCA, Gerakan and MIC, other BN parties like UMNO too have its own share of responsibility as extremist rhetoric like that of Zainuddin’s will also hurt other ethnic groups.

Under MCA’s continuous transformation efforts, the last by-election results showed that MCA is gradually regaining voter support. However, we will not resort to self-promotion but will continue to strengthen the pathway of transformation.

Zainuddin can work tirelessly for his own or his master Tun Dr Mahathir’s political prospects, but he should not denigrade MCA, Gerakan and MIC to gain cheap political mileage. We strongly condemn his slanderous remarks which attempts to divide BN component parties.
