Press statement by MCA Publicity Spokesperson Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker

Hardly a week, and another photograph surfaces

It has hardly been a week and yet another photograph of the Penang Chief Minister with a man resembling the "Datuk Seri" being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has surfaced. The 37-year-old "Datuk Seri" is being probed for allegedly receiving RM19 million to "settle" the MACC's probe on the controversial Penang Undersea Tunnel project. This time, a picture posted by a Facebook user shows Lim Guan Eng and a man closely resembling the "Datuk Seri" laughing while sitting together in the back seat of a car allegedly belonging to one of the bosses of the undersea tunnel and roads consortium. According to a caption accompanying the viral photograph, it was taken sometime in August last year.

In early March, the first photograph of Guan Eng with the same "Datuk Seri" surfaced, this time with the both of them posing in a private residence without their shoes on. Maybe the rakyat can overlook one photograph, passing it off as a coincidence, but what with another one emerging so soon after? When the first photograph emerged on social media, the chief minister conveniently brushed it off, claiming he has taken photographs with numerous personalities and denied having any dealings at all with the "Datuk Seri". He even retaliated by showing a picture of the same "Datuk Seri" posing for a photograph with Star Media Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Seri Wong Chun Wai. Wong responded saying there were many pictures of him taken with people he barely knew at events he attended and noted, he was wearing his shoes in the photograph.

So, what is Guan Eng's excuse this time? Isn't the emergence of this second photograph clear proof that Guan Eng is indeed a liar? Anybody can conclude that no one takes photographs with the same person "coincidentally" more than once unless that person is your friend. Also, in both photographs, Guan Eng is seen alone with the "Datuk Seri" in a residence and now, in a car. As the late US President Abraham Lincoln said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time".

Is Guan Eng going to follow in the footsteps of Zairil Khir Johari and claim the photographs are doctored and fake? This is exactly what Zairil said when photographs of him and Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud surfaced on social media in April last year. If photographs of Zairil and Dyana were fake, then kindly enlighten the rakyat why no police report was lodged at all. The reason is simple, the photographs were not fakes, just like it was later revealed. This is probably the same scenario with regards to your photographs with the "Datuk Seri" - they will be proven genuine and your ploy will be exposed.

Once again, we look forward to your denial and your "explanation" for this second photograph. It's time for you to stop sweeping dirt under the carpet and come clean. You have always been one to quickly point fingers at others, label them as liars and put yourself up on a pedestal. However, photographs do not lie and sooner or later, the truth will be exposed. There are so many unanswered questioned pertaining to the controversial undersea tunnel and yet you continue to evade the MCA's call for a debate with our deputy president, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong. You keep hiding by claiming that you will only debate with our president, but to us, your excuse does not hold water at all. Why not take up our challenge so once and for all, everything with regards to the undersea tunnel can be laid out in the open? As for now, we eagerly wait your response to this second revelation.
