IS threat against Bersih 2.0 leaders jeopardise their lives & national security – Bukit Aman must probe

The counter protest cum demonstration against the Bersih 5 convoy has hit a new low. From an earlier warning by Mohammad Ali Baharom aka Ali Tinju against Maria Chin to “watch her back” or that she may “no longer walk this earth”, the latest photoshopped image of Jihadi John preparing to slice the necks of a kneeling Maria Chin, Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan and Bersih 2.0 Secretariat member Mandeep Singh amidst desert terrain in Syria indicates links to the Malaysian chapter of IS. 

As the Penal Code has laws against possession of terrorist materials where offenders face jail terms, fines and forfeiture of the property dealt with or items concerned upon conviction, MCA urges Bukit Aman’s Counter Terrorism Division to investigate and apprehend the culprit(s) responsible for the doctored images and death threats since the whatsapp message warning read “ini amaran Islamic State Malaysia”.

Similarly, the sender must be probed for links or contacts with IS and any other terrorist organisation like Al-Qaeda, JI, Boko Haram, Abu Sayyaf, etc in the Middle East and in Southeast Asia.

Besides terrorist charges, the sender must also be investigated for and charged with attempted abduction and murder. These terrorist threats are serious matters of national security and must not be brushed aside.

MCA also implores on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Bukit Aman Cyber Crimes Division to track and identify the person(s) responsible for creating and sending such ghastly images and profanity-laced threats to “sembelih (slaughter).”

Likewise, Ali Tinju who had uttered such a warning to Maria Chin in September this year, or Red Shirts chief Jamal Yunos who claimed IS operatives had infiltrated Bersih 2.0 and he who had threatened another May 13 race riot and violence – both  should not be excluded from investigations by the authorities.

The perpetrator(s) of such death threats are unIslamic. The wrongdoer(s) involved shatters the values of Islam whereby he/she/they clearly fail to comprehend that Islam teaches peace, justice, respecting the rights of religious minorities, protecting women and children and even protecting captives of war.

The police should also accord protection for Maria Chin’s children as well as her place of residence as the terrorist has dragged her children in thus placing their lives in imminent danger whilst warning that he/she knows where Maria resides.
