RAWANG: MCA is ready for a snap election in Selangor should the Pakatan Harapan-led state government dissolve the state assembly before the 14th general election, says party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“Our candidates in Selangor are ready,” he said after attending a party carnival at SJK(C) Kundang and a walkabout around the Chinese new village here yesterday.

He was responding to the motion passed by PAS Youth and Ulama wings for PAS to sever ties with PKR during the 63rd PAS muktamar on Friday.

Liow said it was known that the cooperation between the Opposition parties would not last.

“Whether it’s Pakatan Rakyat or Pakatan Harapan, we knew their marriage of convenience would fail.

“Their parties do not share the same ideals and values,” he said, adding that the Opposition parties have never been united.

“They do not share common values that exist in Barisan Nasional such as power-sharing, cooperation, tolerance, racial harmony and consensus,” he added.

Liow said Selangor voters should teach these Opposition parties a lesson for betraying the trust given to them during the next election.

This is because the Opposition parties in Selangor ended up fighting each other and were not able to run the state government properly, he added.

Liow cited the Selangor mentri besar crisis in 2014 as an example of infighting that left the state administration in limbo for almost a year.

Pakatan Harapan has 29 state seats in Selangor. PAS has 13 seats and Barisan Nasional 12 seats. Two state seats are held by independents.

Earlier, Liow attended a dialogue session with members of local residents’ associations in Rawang, which was also held at SJK(C) Kundang.

The residents spoke of problems they had to face in the area such as traffic jams, flash floods and water supply disruptions.

They also requested a new vernacular school in the area to cater to the rising number of pupils.

Liow also told them that the Federal Government has set aside an allocation for a new car park near the Rawang KTM Komuter station to encourage the people to use public transport and to help reduce traffic jams.

He added that MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon, who is also Deputy Education Minister, is looking into the possibility of relocating a vernacular school with a low attendance at another area to Rawang.
