Put a period on politicking over period spot checks!

Immediate past Deputy Education Minister Teoh Nie Ching must put a full stop, a period on all forms of politicking over the “period spot check” incidents as more and more victims, present and past come forward and share their traumatic experiences.

Why does the DAP Kulai MP now suddenly point arrows at the Education Ministry (MoE) and not before when she herself wielded the Deputy Minister’s portfolio?

As the MoE is deemed a heavyweight Ministry, is Teoh Nie Ching piquing at MoE now over the “period spot check” issue due to speculation that the 15th general election may be called once the State of Emergency is lifted?

Any elected representative should act to protect the public promptly, at any time, and not wait for the “correct” time to exploit the opportunity to raise an issue to gain political mileage. This “period spot check” issue is one concerning the violation of child rights, human rights to personal safety and dignity, besides personal privacy.

What the DAP Kulai MP uttered on the “period spot check” issue once again proves that DAP never cares about the rights of the rakyat, but instead would politicise every issue for personal gain.

Recommendations
Wanita MCA views the “period spot check” issue seriously and calls on the MoE to immediately initiate an investigation on the allegation.

While pending investigations, a restraining order should be served on the alleged abuser to ensure a minimum distance keeps her/him separated from the victim.

Wanita MCA also calls on MoE and the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to initiate a dedicated hotline or handphone apps for victims to lodge complaints where their identity will be kept confidential and anonymous.

Guidelines must be issued to schools to completely prohibit "period spot checks" where disciplinary action will be taken against school authorities found flouting these guidelines.

Wanita MCA reiterates that the “period spot check” incidents are a gender / social welfare, human rights issue which can strike at anyone at any time. It has nothing to do with politics, race and religion at all.

This is not the time to politick but to address and put a period to the issue.
