DAP moots Anwar as PM - Why not recommend Lim Guan Eng?

DAP should not be self-deprecating in its choice for Prime Minister. It should bravely recommend its Secretary General Lim Guan Eng who is also the Chief Minister of Penang as he things he has “something to do” as well as to execute the “Malaysian Malaysia” spirit which DAP has long over the years emphasised.

There are 2 reasons for this proposal. Firstly, the concept of “Malaysian Malaysia” which DAP had advocated for in the past – is DAP still pursuing it? Secondly, the Parliamentary system practised in our country, whereby the candidate for the Prime Ministership usually hails from the political party with the highest number of federal seats.

Since DAP is reluctant to pursue the concept of “Malaysian Malaysia,” and that its supremo Lim Kit Siang once said that non-Malays can serve as Prime Minister, DAP should not rocket down this principle but act accordingly to it. However, within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) pact, DAP appears to be relegated to a supporting role, recommending others to take the premiership, including Malaysia’s longest serving Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, PKR President Dr Wan Azizah and ketua umum Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

As DAP is the Opposition party with the highest number of elected representatives in the Dewan Rakyat, why does it select candidates from other parties to become the Prime Minister? While DAP cannot wait to refuse serving as Deputy Prime Minister, why does it support political parties with fewer MPs to become the premier,  but dares not recommend its own?

This shows that no matter how many seats DAP wins in any general election, and despite the fact that it is the Opposition ally with the most number of seats, such amassment of seats holds no meaning or value at all in the political structure and system of the country. Without any influence nor assistance from others, DAP cannot help to promote the political will of the Chinese community. On the contrary, the Rocket will only steer the Chinese to be on the sidelines and aggravate ethnic polarisation in society and foster the rise of extremism.

If DAP, as the largest Opposition party in the Dewan Rakyat has no political power nor influence, there is no difference between DAP and the general election. DAP’s views on the topic of who the Prime Minister should be is nothing more than saying things which Malaysian voters want to hear. It also shows their hypocrisy of a self-proclaimed multiracial party.
