GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he will not diminish his position as secretary-general of DAP by accepting a debate with the “number two” man in MCA.
In turning down MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong’s challenge on the Penang undersea tunnel project, Lim said it should have come from party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai instead.
“I am not going to downgrade my position as sec-gen of DAP by accepting this challenge.
“It would mean that next time an honorary member can also come and challenge me.
“Then, we can also challenge the Prime Minister to a debate. When will it end? Please respect each other’s position,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
On Monday, Dr Wee had told Lim to end the bickering over the controversial project with a debate.
