PONTIAN: The Bangsa Johor concept is not about Johor leaving the federation of Malaysia but to ensure its people remain united and help strengthen the foundation of the country.

Johor Domestic Trade, Tourism and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said that the Bangsa Johor concept had been in existence since the 1920s.

“This concept has been practised all these years, including changing the Johor anthem from the Selamatkan Sultan to the Lagu Bangsa Johor.

“We as Johoreans realise that the state will always be part of the federation,” he said.

Tee, who is also state deputy MCA chief, also hit out at those using this as an agenda to harm the stability of Malaysia.

“We have to reject all ideologies which prevent us from celebrating our togetherness, diversity and unity of our people,” he said during a meeting with village heads in his Pulai Sebatang constituency.

Tee added that as a diverse society, there were many challenges that needed to be faced.

“That is why we need to put aside our differences and look for a common goal. Let us look at unity and maintaining harmony.

“Unity should not just be mere words spoken but should come from the heart,” he said.

During the event, the Pulai Sebatang assemblyman handed out flags to villagers to fly in their respective villages to commemorate the Merdeka month.

“I hope our national flag is displayed in all parts in the constituency as people should be proud to celebrate our independence,” he added.
