Press Statement by MCA Youth Spokesperson Ryan Ho Kwok Xheng

With Dr M's promise, probes into disappearances of Pastor Raymond Koh & activist Amri must not be stalled

In the wake of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) report concluding that the Malaysian Special Branch (SB) director had a hand in the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh and activist Amri Che Mat, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that fresh probes unto the then SB director and 11th Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Tan Sri Fuzi Harun shall be conducted after his retirement.

He made that promise on April 3rd, and Mohamad Fuzi had officially retired on May 3rd. Despite that, Dr Mahathir had not mentioned the cases ever since and no significant headways have been made.

As the head of the Pakatan Harapan government, Dr Mahathir holds all resources and power needed at his fingertips to unravel this mystery. It is an act of irresponsibility if the premier continues to chalk all this stalling in investigations as the fault of the “previous regime”.

Dr Mahathir should be instructing Home Minister Tan Sri Dato’ Muhyiddin Yassin to pick up the pace in the re-investigation of these enforced disappearances for the sake of the victims and their families.

In the days building up to GE14, Pakatan Harapan had taken advantage of these cases as political ammunition. Yet, now that they are in power, why are they not doing all they can to get to the bottom of these disappearances and make their findings available to the public as quickly as possible?

For as long as our police leave this case unresolved, we Malaysians will never be truly safe even in our own homes.
