PETALING JAYA: The government should work together with the Opposition resolve the issues faced by oil palm smallholders and farmers, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the government and the Opposition needed to put politics aside and cooperate to find a “practical solution” to help around 650,000 oil palm smallholders and farmers affected by the falling prices of the commodity.

“I am listening and attending to the complaints of the people in Kedai Kopi Traffic Lights Yong Peng.

“The smallholders and farmers are worried about their future as the price of palm oil is falling to such a low level that it is nearing manufacturing cost.

“Their earnings are adversely affected, resulting in a slowing down of business at coffeeshops and supermarkets,” said Dr Wee in a post on his Facebook page yesterday.

The Ayer Hitam MP said smallholders and farmers had asked him to highlight the situation they were facing at the Dewan Rakyat.
