Ignorant & vulgar: Nga mocks the hallowed 14-pointed star of the national flag

It is wretched for DAP Perak Chairman Nga Kor Ming to have shown such wanton disrespect for the 14-pointed star, especially considering his current position as the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.  Each word smeared against the star symbol is a word too much belittling the 14 states and the people it represents.

Earlier, Nga had mocked the 14-pointed star in the MCA emblem and compared its looks to a “durian.” This goes on to showcase just how little the Deputy Speaker comprehends the sacred meaning behind the star.

The 14-pointed star of the MCA logo is one and the same as the one on the Jalur Gemilang. It represents the unity shared between the 13 states and Federal Territories. During the early years of Malaysia, when MCA became a formal political party to represent the Malaysian Chinese, the decision was made to incorporate the 14-pointed star from our national flag into the party emblem was to symbolise that the Chinese too are, part of Malaysia. Truly, this 14-pointed star encapsulates a profound meaning, and it was desecrated by Nga’s mockery.

It is a great shame that our Deputy Speaker chose to ridicule the 14-pointed star of Jalur Gemilang and MCA’s emblem in August, the month our Hari Kemerdekaan falls on. This further demonstrates Nga’s ignorance and lack of class.

Nga Kor Ming needs to know: both the national and party flags are hallowed objects. He is free to attack MCA in any way, but he must not disrespect the national flag, or the flag of any party at all for that matter.

Moreover, Nga should know better that as a Deputy Speaker that he must maintain a non-partisan attitude. Yet, he pokes fun at the opposition’s flag and ridicules the opposition in official settings. Whether in terms of personal character or class, Nga is ill-suited for any Speaker positions.
