PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional has given MCA the green light to use its own logo in the upcoming Balakong by-election.

The permission was granted during the Barisan supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Aug 13).

“We have officially received the letter from MCA to contest in Balakong, and to use its own logo.

“The Balakong by-election is an opportunity for us to gauge each party's performance when using its own logo,” said the coalition’s deputy chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who chaired the meeting.

He also said Barisan would not contest in the Seri Setia by-election to give way to PAS.

The Seri Setia and Balakong by-elections will be held simultaneously. Nominations will be held on Aug 18. Polling has been set for Sept 8.

The Balakong by-election was triggered following the death of DAP assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee.

Ng, who had retained the seat for a second term with a 35,538-vote majority, died in a traffic accident on July 20.

The Seri Setia by-election was called following the death of its incumbent PKR's Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin from cancer on Aug 2.

In GE14, Dr Shaharuddin won the seat for Pakatan Harapan in a four-cornered fight with a 19,372 majority.
