KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Chee Teong is MCA's candidate for the Balakong by-election.

He is a committee member with the Serdang MCA division.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who announced his candidacy at Wisma MCA here on Tuesday afternoon (Aug 14), described Tan as an activist and grassroots man.

Born and bred in Balakong, Tan, 40, is a businessman and married with three children.

The Balakong state seat fell vacant after its assembyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee died in a traffic accident on July 20.

In the 14th General Election, Ng beat Barisan Nasional candidate from MCA Lim Chin Wah and PAS candidate Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali with a 35,538 vote majority.
