GEORGE TOWN: Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy's statement that the Penang state government has never hired a single United Examination Certificate (UEC) student as a civil servant contradicts former Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's claim that Penang recognises the certificate, says the Penang MCA.

The state's MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said when Lim was Penang Chief Minister in 2015, he exploited the lack of recognition for the UEC by hiring UEC holder Thing Siew Shuen as general manager of the Penang Green Council.

"Her recruitment was touted as evidence that Penang recognised the UEC.

"However a few days ago, during the Penang state Legislative Assembly, Ramasamy exposed Lim’s lies when he announced that the Penang state government had never hired a single UEC student to be a civil servant.

"Lim did not deny, refute nor criticise Ramasamy’s remarks.

"On the contrary, he directed the fault to MCA," said Tan in a statement.

Tan added if the state government had recruited Thing based on her UEC qualifications, then Lim must provide Ramasamy with the relevant proof or demand that Ramasamy withdraw his remarks and apologise.
