Press statement by MCA Religious Harmony Bureau Secretary Chris Daniel Wong

As a research team, Invoke should be independent & not be biased

As a so-called independent research body as PKR-run Invoke portrays itself to be, Invoke should be bipartisan on all issues, instead of just focusing on attacking BN. Its latest survey prediction that Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the 14th general election (GE14) could win in five states including Perak, Kedah, and Johor, besides retaining Selangor and Penang is none-other than personal chest thumping to wage a psychological war against BN’s machinery.

Invoke’s survey was conducted by using social media. This in itself suggests that its pool of respondents is not representative of the entire voting population being limited to urbanites. Utilising social medial also suggests that Invoke’s survey excluded respondents who either do not have access to social survey or are not prone to using social media.

Scandals in Penang, for example, highly exposed alleged corruption dealings or power abuse in the Sungai Lembu illegal carbon filter processing factory, or Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng  being charged with two counts of corruption for purchasing a bungalow below market value, or the current colossal controversy involving the environment-destructive Penang undersea tunnel scandal which have landed its Exco’s led by CM Guan Eng being investigated and arrested by MACC warrant attention by Invoke.

In fact, if Invoke really is independent, it should emulated Opposition supporter Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan’s call that Guan Eng goes on leave pending MACC investigation and decision of the court hearing.

Likewise, Invoke should be critical against the water cuts controversy in Selangor which affected many areas in Selangor and the Klang Valley, with some residential areas purportedly being without any water supply for 6 days.

Invoke has forgotten that following the month-long water rationing fiasco in April 2014, its own former PKR Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had once given the assurance that Selangor would not resort to water rationing again (New Straits Times, 11 June 2014). As a matter of principle, the current PKR Selangor state government led by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali should adhere to his predecessor’s pledge and put a halt to all these water cuts nonsense as Tan Sri Khalid's words were representative of the state government. Take heed from his predecessor to resolve the water dispute with Putrajaya.  Stop postponing the upgrading of infrastructure related to water supply, including the pipes and infrastructure.
