Lim Guan Eng is Hiding, Afraid to Take On Wee Ka Siong

1.         Whether Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (LGE) has been practising double-face and being hypocritical with his multiple personalities in his public conduct when debating with national leaders, it is best left to the public to judge.

2.         He had claimed in a condescending manner that he is unwilling to lower or “downgrade” himself to debating with any persons beneath him, but the truth of the matter is that he has in the past challenged an UMNO Minister, or even the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, a civil servant, in any attempt to reap publicity and in his capacity as a “distinguished” head of a state. However when Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong challenged him to a debate, he turned chicken and in an act of cowardice, insisted on “proper ranking” of his opponents.

3.         When LGE rejected Wee's challenge to a debate, he shielded himself by referring to the latter’s party post as Deputy President of MCA and therefore unqualified to debate him. Upon Wee pointing out that Lim Guan Eng had in the past challenged many lesser leaders to a debate, including UMNO Ministers who held only ordinary party posts, and he had actually accepted a debate challenge by one of the Ministers. Shamelessly, Lim Guan Eng then sheepishly claimed that he would rather debate Ministers from UMNO because UMNO holds more seats in Parliament. Since when has DAP chosen to debate issues of public concern based on personalities or parties?

4.         But a look at Pakatan Harapan will show that Lim Guan Eng has lied and is inconsistent on allocating respect based on the number of seats. Although DAP pounds its chest by claiming that it has the most number of Parliamentary seats among all parties in the opposition and is above racial politics , it however took a backseat when it came to who the opposition leader or the leader of Pakatan Harapan is to be. It has also willingly given up Parliamentary seats traditionally contested by the Rocket as a form of homage or “kowtowing” to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia which is only a newly minted party and has only one parliamentary seat. The Parliamentary opposition leader was given to PKR and the leader of the opposition PH was given to a party with only one seat.

5.         Lim Guan Eng again put his foot in his mouth when he failed to distinguish government from party matters. I respect Member of Parliament of Taiping YB Nga Kor Ming for his talent in debate and qualifications, but please be reminded that Wee Ka Siong's challenge to debate is on the Penang state’s mega project, and obviously must be answered by the one who holds the highest post in the state administration. It does not speak well of Lim Guan Eng’s empty promises of accountability and transparency to get someone who is never in the administration of Penang State to debate on behalf of the state government. Wee's intention is to clear the doubts of the people on the mega project, so please stop trying to divert attention with name callings or irrelevant people or subjects.

6.         In short, Lim Guan Eng is a leader who has lost the plot and has no more principles to hold on to when he continued to contradict himself. He has been consistently inconsistent and fails to honour his words or principles.

7.         For now, the Penang CM continues to put on airs in his persistent refusal to debate Wee Ka Siong on the Penang Undersea Tunnel and its 3 related road projects. One can only conclude that the fishy part of his personality is hiding or running away from some truths from the public. If this project was done in a transparent, open and fair manner as he so claimed, why would he not pick up the golden opportunity to debate Wee by providing details and “evidence” that he is privy to and embarrass Wee in public?
