MINISTER OF TRANSPORT

Liow: VEP Tags For Foreign-Registered Vehicles Entering Malaysia Through The Causeway And Second-Link Expressway From Singapore Will Be Released In Stages

The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags, which will be attached to all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia through the Causeway and Second-Link Expressway, will be released in stages upon completion of ongoing application tests that are expected to complete mid-April.

The Vehicle Entry Permit system will prevent foreign vehicles from being cloned and sold in the country. It will also allow us to prevent vehicles with outstanding summonses from leaving the country. The Ministry is currently in the process to introduce the VEP system in phases at the Malaysia-Thailand border, and the Sabah/Sarawak-Indonesia/Brunei borders.

The VEP tag is fitted with RFID technology and will be integrating a cashless payment system developed by Touch ‘n Go, the operator of the road charge collection.

The introduction of the cashless payment system at the Causeway and the Second-Link Expressway is in line with the country’s aspiration to accelerate the creation of a robust and secure digital payment ecosystem. This will act as a catalyst to promote cashless solutions in Malaysia and create a cultural change as we embark on our continuing drive to developing a Malaysia of tomorrow through digitisation and technology.
