A Perak Exco is currently under investigation for allegedly raping his Indonesian maid. As rape is a criminal offence, this case has a direct impact on the international reputation of Malaysia and our judicial system, leaving no room save for absolute judicial impartiality.


To ensure that the handling of this case upholds the principles of independence, fairness and transparency, MCA’s Government Affairs Monitoring Committee (GMC) will be setting up an independent observer group to keep a close tab of the case proceedings. The group members are selected from existing GMC members, and each of them bring their very own set of skills to the table in monitoring the progress of this case.

 

Objectives of Independent Observer Group

  1. Provide check-and-balance, Prioritise public opinion.
  2. Fortify the spirit that all are equal in the eyes of the law.
  3. Be the eyes of the people and the international community; ensure that the proceedings uphold the principles of independence, fairness and transparency.
  4. Provide legal, psychological and other aids needed to the parties involved.
