DAP’s actions reek of Cowardice

What is it that the DAP is afraid of? Why were they so quick to surrender their right to claim the Perak Menteri Besar’s position?  As soon as Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari was announced as the party’s candidate for the Tebing Tinggi state seat, DAP supremo in a haste declared that the party would not be making a claim for the MB’s position. Soon after Kit Siang’s denial, the DAP National Organising Secretary, Anthony Loke, in what was noted as an overreaction and an unnecessary display of anger, quickly announced that the incumbent Ong Boon Piow who made the announcement, would be facing disciplinary action. Loke said Ong’s announcement that Dr Abdul Aziz would be his successor was not sanctioned by the party.

From this, we can obviously note that the DAP is afraid of something. Why should a political party that aspires for racial equality and a Malaysian Malaysia so quickly give up its political right to claim the MB’s position? After all, it is constitutionally, politically and democratically correct. One wonders what happened to DAP’s promise to the non-Malays, especially the Chinese of a more equal playing field? Unlike MCA, which is a Chinese-based BN component party, the DAP is supposedly a multi-racial party which has a right to hold the Perak Menteri Besar’s position in the event they obtain the rakyat’s mandate. Are DAP supporters being taken for a ride by the leaders with false, empty promises?  Shouldn’t the DAP be upholding the spirit of democracy? Why is the DAP giving up their right to the MB’s post if they have the people’s mandate and obtain majority support in line with the democratic process? Has the current leadership of DAP given up their late Chairman, Karpal Singh’s aspiration for a non-Malay Prime Minister?

In the past, DAP has given up their right to be the opposition leader in Parliament despite the fact that they commanded the highest number of Parliamentary seats. Kit Siang had in the past given up his Opposition leader’s post to Tengku Razaleigh, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and others despite DAP receiving the political mandate to lead. This smells of DAP cowardice and is a direct contradiction to DAP’s advocacy of an equal level playing field cutting across all racial barriers. What happened to DAP’s promise of a non-racial political approach? Is DAP giving up their pursuit of a level playing field in favour of Malay dominance now? Is this the reason DAP is giving up their Rocket logo in favour of another party’s logo?

As we have witnessed in the past, the DAP once again seems to be making a U-turn on non-racial politics and is instead accepting Malay politics and dominance. Are we seeing DAP’s metamorphosis into a party that’s submitting to the reality of racial politics in accepting a race based party like PPBM? If the DAP can so quickly neglect and overlook all they have preached so far, just think how much more quicker they would be to turn their backs on the rakyat.
