MCA Youth Penang to Consulate General of Penang: Apologise now for assailing sensitivities of all Malaysians

Having ignored the sensitivities of all Malaysians by unveiling a “Japanese Hero Monument,” it is only reasonable that the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang expresses an apology, failing which, MCA Youth Penang will step up pressure as a show of protest.

The Youth wing of MCA Penang is stunned that the Japanese Consulate-General had actually  sponsored the refurbishment of a granite memorial which showers praises on the Japanese marauders in 1941, thereby totally insulting the next-of-kin of Malayans and Allied Forces who were tortured, many of whom were executed during the Japanese Occupation in a most gruesome manner.

MCA Youth Penang emphasises that, as Malaysians, we will never forget the atrocities unleashed by the Japanese Imperial Army when they stormed our country during World War 2, as well as the sufferings during the three years and eight months of Japanese rule; We can never forget, the deep wounds and anxieties that could never leave our forefathers and the Allied servicemen and their next-of-kin from all ethnic groups who survived the Japanese aggression. The former were robbed of peace for the rest of their lives. Thus, this record of history must never be erased nor whitewashed by the Japanese government!

Unfortunately, the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang had sponsored the makeover of the “Japanese Hero Monument” in Kedah in complete disregard of the local sentiments here. By singing praises of their Japanese invaders as heroes, it is astonishing that a foreign mission failed to realise its actions have seriously hurt the feelings of all Malaysians.

Separately, the move by the Consulate-General of Japan is an unacceptable act of provocation against Malaysia. As a diplomatic representative of the Japanese government in the Pearl of the Orient, it should strive earnestly towards reconciliation and improving ties between Malaysia and the Land of the Rising Sun. However, this gross insensitivity has only undermined the relationship between Malaysia and Japan.

Therefore, the Consulate-General of Japan make an open apology to all Malaysians within three days, over its dereliction of duty and give the commitment to dismantle the “Japanese Hero Monument.”

Otherwise, MCA Youth Penang will assert further pressure on a global platform in defence of the dignity of all Malaysians!

The dignity of all Malaysians must not be trampled by anyone!
