Press Statement by MCA Vice President Senator Dato 'Sri Ti Lian Ker

Why is Pakatan Harapan still dissatisfied with their threats against Cameron Highland residents?

After PKR Senator Bob Manolan threatened to deprive the Tok Batins off their positions and allowances, it is now the turn of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to continue Pakatan Harapan’s bullying of Cameron Highlands residents.

Guan Eng unabashedly intimidated Cameron Highlands residents by implying that development projects in this constituency would not be possible if voters did not ballot for DAP candidate M.Manogaran.

Having cancelled several projects that were intended to benefit the masses, Guan Eng now threatens to deny further funds for the development of Cameron Highlands should voters select the BN candidate who is an Orang Asli at the ballot slip.

What a contradiction as Pakatan Harapan leaders had flailed former Prime Minister DAto’ Sri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak for saying “I help you, you help me" during the Sibu by-election in 2010. It is pretty obvious that since wresting the federal government, Pakatan Harapan has conveniently forgotten and ignored the principles DAP portrayed.

In the interest of the people, it is the responsibility of the federal government to ensure development is carried out in every state, including in opposition areas. The act of neglecting opposition-held areas, or denying development funds, is hypocritical and irresponsible and certainly against the flow of the “New Malaysia."

This is particularly evident when Pakatan Harapan Cabinet Ministers flocked to Cameron Highlands with promises of various assistance for the local populace and projects just two weeks prior nomination day, as follows:

• January 3: Deputy Prime Minister Dato 'Seri Wan Azizah and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Waytha Moorthy pledged to establish a create a comprehensive development plan for the Orang Asli.

• January 5: Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar has promised to set up a special task force to look into issues of intrusion, dangerous slopes and appropriate law enforcement to prevent widespread land exploitation.

• January 6: Minister of Human Resources Kulasegaran promised to review the issuance of TOL land, and to find solutions to the issue of foreign employment permit.

• January 7: Transport Minister Anthony Loke promised to continue giving the 90% road tax discount on special vehicle licenses (LKM-CH) after it expires in 2021, and also study the feasibility of tour operators using four-wheel drive cars to ferry tourists.

Why does Guan Eng pressure or exert undue influence so that voters will be compelled to vote for the DAP candidate. Isn’t Guan Eng abusing the government powers vested in him?

Not even has the PH government fulfil its GE14 pledges, its now showering empty promises unto Cameron Highlands once again?

Will the PH government once again descend towards making as many u-turns as they did with the PH Manifesto promises? Will Guan Eng blame Cameron Highlands and the previous BN government when he is criticised by the masses for cancelling public projects that were promised to the rakyat and failure to honour PH’s promises?

Hasn’t PH sufficiently punished innocent people and made their lives difficult?

The masses and the country are suffering enough with Pakatan’s false promises such as the axing of GST will lower prices, high toll abolition and others.

PH and in particular DAP must put an end to the suffering and misery of the rakyat by ceasing their all reprisals. Commence administering this nation well and discard the Opposition “mindset” and taking revenge. MCA reminds the PH government to strive on and carry out its responsibility by focusing on developing rather than destroying the nation to benefit the masses irrespective of race, religion or political affiliation.
