Pakatan Harapan urged to be consistent with Manifesto as voters were convinced & voted PH based on promises

Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders claimed that in order to eliminate corruption and abuse of power, PH’s election Manifesto Promise 12 pledged once it is in power, the Prime Minister will not simultanesouly hold other ministerial positions. The newly formed PH federal government should thus abide by its promises made to voters and withdraw the decision of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad to take on the Education Minister’s portfolio.

Equally preposterous is when DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang was ignorant of this inconsistency and defended it by claiming that he “Apart from PM cannot be FM, not aware that PH manifesto proposed PM cannot hold another portfolio (Lim Kit Siang twitter, 17 May 2018).”

As early as 21 April 2018, Astro Awani reported that the PH top brass had vowed “only one post for the Prime Minister, if PH successfully forms government.” By hastily u-turning on his words by further defending  “There is an absolute prohibition on the Prime Minister holding the post of Ministry of Finance, which is not applicable to other Ministries (The Malaysian Times, 18 May 2018),” Kit Siang  has reneged on both the vow made by PH top leadership on 21 April 2018 as well as the contents inked in the PH Manifesto. The DAP stalwart should stand firmly with what PH had promised to the rakyat.

The Iskandar Puteri MP also just proved to the world his shallow comprehension of the PH Manifesto which clearly spelt out that “the Prime Minister WILL NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY hold other ministerial posts, especially the post of Minister of Finance.” Promise 12 did not state that the “the post of Education Ministry or other Ministries are acceptable” or that “ONLY the Finance Minister’s post must not be undertaken by the Prime Minister” – both of which Kit Siang entreats.

Contradiction in Tun M’s appointment of MACC Chief Commissioner

After this PH Manifesto contradiction of the Prime Minister wielding a dual role as the Education Minister, another inconsistency was shown by Tun Dr Mahathir when he single-handedly appointed Dato’ Seri Mohd Shukri Abdul as the MACC Chief Commissioner. This is another breach of PH Manifesto Promise 14 which pledged that “Appointments of these (MACC) Commissioners must be validated democratically by Parliament.”

Establish Cabinet pronto!

During a press conference, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad had also informed that he would announce the full cabinet lineup as soon as possible, in fact, by Monday, 14 May 2018. This is necessary so that the new government ministers can perform their duties immediately to implement what the voters want to see.

The new government can no longer delay the timing to form its Cabinet. Further delays will only confuse Malaysians and the global community. The entire country’s reform agenda and top decisions made up till todate stem from the Prime Minister as well as the five-member Council of Eminent Persons which Tun Dr Mahathir appointed. Such a move goes against the system which portrays collective responsibility of the Cabinet as policy drafting and implementation has been deflected from the Cabinet to the five-member Council
