Press statement by MCA Publicity Bureau Chairman Senator Dato’ Chai Kim Sen

MCA has long stated its position on the 1MDB issue, Tony Pua should re-examine DAP before he preaches about principles

DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua should re-examine DAP before lecturing about political principles with MCA. In fact he should recover DAP’s loss of integrity. DAP is making itself a laughing stock by deliberating on principles issue, when it has no principles and integrity.

Ever since 2015, when the 1MDB issue first caught public attention, MCA President Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai had clearly stated the party’s position, urging the government to conduct a thorough investigation over the matter and never to ignore it.

MCA also stressed that it has been constantly fighting for genuine accountability and good governance in the federal government’s administration, as well as a transparency in any probe being carried out. Besides declaring the party’s position, MCA has also made repeated calls for the 1MDB scandal to be probed thoroughly in the Cabinet and also the Barisan Nasional’s meetings.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s press secretary has also stated that the Malaysian government will give full cooperation to any investigation on companies or individuals related to the 1MDB issue. However, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) did not seek cooperation from the Malaysian government or the companies involved. The DOJ should take the legal action if it has any valid evidence.

In his Facebook, Tony Pua has accused Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai and MCA of having no principle and not declaring a position on 1MDB issue. If Tony Pua has seen the news, then he is deliberately slandering and defaming Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai and MCA.

Since Tony Pua has raised the issue of principles, then he should answer the following questions:

1)   DAP had whitewashed PAS in the previous general election, misleading the Chinese voters into believing that PAS had abandoned the implementation of theocratic state. But after the general election, it can only watched helplessly as hudud enactment was passed in PAS-led Kelantan. DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng also dodged the question with a weak ‘let it pass first’ remark. Where are DAP’s principles in this matter?

2)   DAP claimed that it opposes to the Act 355 Bill tabled by PAS President Hadi Awang. But when its Pakatan allies PKR and PPBM openly declared support for Act 355 Bill, DAP did not lambast or sever ties with them. Where are DAP’s principles in this matter?

3)   In the past, DAP used to say that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad was a dictator who destroyed democracy and harmed the country. But now it is hugging Tun Dr Mahathir, and trying hard to whitewash him. Whereare DAP’s principles in this matter?
