Press statement by MCA Vice President Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun to rebut allegations by DAP Damansara Utama State Assemblyman YB Yeo Bee Yin and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua

1.         I am calling this press conference with a heavy heart and deep regret.

2.         Despite exercising my patience and keeping a calm silence with the hope of avoiding any unproductive exchange of words with DAP ADUN YB Yeo Bee Yin, DAP has chosen to repeat their lies for reasons best known to themselves.

3.         I had hoped that YB Yeo Bee Yin and DAP will come to her senses on what is fact and fiction and what is true and false. I was hoping that they will have a good conscience and to not go overboard to defame me or attack my integrity maliciously.

4.         After consulting my lawyers, I have been advised to and have now decided to commence legal actions against Yeo Bee Yin for her false allegations in a video recording alleging that I have been instrumental in helping MCA Selangor to buy a piece of land below market value in the year 2006/2007 and also forced the eviction of the squatters therein.

5.         In the said video, Yeo Bee Yin had intentionally and maliciously uttered the following slanderous/libellous/ and/or defamatory or false statement as follows:

a) "Naib Presiden MCA, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun is a person having higher reputation among MCA members, however the piece of land purposed for dragon fruit plantation had now become ownership of MCA Selangor. "

b)  "I hope Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun self-conscience about her own act" which in their natural and ordinary meaning and/or by implication mean, meant and were understood to the public at large inter alia that:

a. I am unfit to hold office, unethical and untrustworthy;

b. that I have abused my authority while holding public office and is corrupted and/or has acted against the law.

6.         The statements published in the said video inter-alia:

a) are bereft of truth , vexatious,  false and totally uncalled for;

b) are far from the truth, grossly negligent,  reckless, deliberate, malicious and aimed to lower my esteem and  reputation in the eyes of the public;

c) are calculated to subject myself to public hatred, scorn , odium,  contempt or ridicule.

7.         The said allegations are wholly untrue and motivated by malice, mala fide and distortion of facts suggesting moral or legal impropriety on my part.

8.         The said allegations are principally done in pursuit of cheap publicity, sensationalism and calculated to inflict political and personal damage.

9.         I do hereby state that I am neither in the District Land Committee or a member of the State Exco and do not partake in any decisions nor  have the authority to approve any application of any land under the jurisdiction of the  Selangor state government at the relevant time.

10.       It is very unfortunate that YB Tony Pua as a Member of Parliament is so ignorant and illiterate. He does not understand the basic fact about state matters and the role of a Member of Parliament. All land matters come under the jurisdiction and purview of the State and Member of Parliament are not part of the District Land Committee etc.

11.       I have also instructed my lawyers to stop Tony Pua from repeating his lies against me.
