Violence at KKIA condemned; Don’t let by-election divide society – MCA Youth

MCA Youth condemns the violence by a group suspected to be supporters of Parti Warisan Sabah against BN supporters at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and calls on the public to end all divisions as incurred due to the recent Kimanis by-election.

MCA Youth is saddened by the latest incident.

Our nation is a nation governed by the rule of law. Nobody is above the law or may assault or act violently against another person in public, private and what more, at an international airport. No legislation will allow this incident.

Sadly, supporters from both sides are suspected of quarrelling due to the said by-election, till accusations were exchanged which eventually led to violence. We believe that nobody desires to see such incidents befalling.

Kimanis voters made their choices through our nation’s democratic system on 18 January 2020, and results from the said by-election have been verified and are final. MCA Youth urges the public to accept the democratic decision with an open heart whilst reminding that violence will not change anything. On the contrary, violence only breeds hostilities besides splitting national unity further.

Irrespective of government or opposition party, nobody should act against public civility or unlawfully. Anyone who feels that their opponent has committed an offence may resort to the appropriate legal channels. Do not take the law into one’s own hands.

MCA Youth hopes and supports the police to act without fear or favour against anyone who breaches the law irrespective of political affiliation,
