MCA sues Keranji ADUN for slander: High Court issues writ of summons to Chong Zhemin

MCA is suing Keranji state Assemblyman Chong Zhemin in court for slander.

On 12 Feb 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court issued a Writ of Summons to Chong Zhemin, demanding inter alia general damages, interests, costs, and an injunction to prevent him from further slandering the MCA. Chong Zhemin will have 14 days to enter an appearance, failing which the MCA will not hesitate to obtain a judgment in default of appearance from the Court.

Chong Zhemin had previously claimed that MCA misappropriated RM150 million in government allocations to fund the construction of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital. Although his allegations have since been debunked by a statement from the Ministry of Health, he was not remorseful but continued slandering the MCA with baseless allegations. MCA had repeatedly cautioned Chong Zhemin to retract his allegations but to no avail, leaving MCA no other choice but to initiate legal proceedings.
