Press Statement by MCA Penang State Liaison Committee Deputy Chairman Tan Teik Cheng

Lim Guan Eng should stop exploiting the UEC issue in hopes of diverting attention from the controversial bungalow purchase & Taman Manggis land transaction

Lim Guan Eng should be blasted for using the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) issue to divert attention from his controversial bungalow purchase and Taman Manggis land transaction, when in fact he never cared about Chinese education and UEC.

I want to reassure Lim that MCA and Chinese educational organisations have been working hard on getting recognition for UEC in the country, and that Lim should not try to gain cheap publicity on this matter, manipulating it to divert attention from controversies surrounding him.

Please leave the Chinese Independent High Schools to MCA and Chinese educational bodies.  Lim should instead help poor Penangites to own a house, and explain why the Penang state government cannot solve the perennial problem of housing affordability. On the other side, high-value property development is prioritised while Lim managed to buy an undervalued property from Phang Li Koon. Isn’t it ironic?

The Penang Chief Minister should focus on preparing for the debate with the Minister of Housing, Local Government and Urban Planning Dato’ Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor on the 19th this month. Don’t blame UEC for distractions to avoid answering any question.
