“Dare to Dream” short video clip competition: “My Movie Dream” scoops victory


The prize giving ceremony for the “Dare to Dream” or D2D short video clip competition was held in Wisma MCA today whereby the top ten excellent submissions were awarded.

Since the launching of the D2D short video clip competition by MCA President Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai in August 2016, it has gain the enthusiastic response from the community aged below 30 years. 58 entries were received up till the deadline of 30 December 2016.

A profession assessor verified all entries, shortlisted and selected the winners ie 10 excellent entries of which 3 were chosen as the champion, second place and third place winners. The winning entries are as follow:

Champion: My Movie Dream

Second Place: Steering Wheel

Third Place: Dream Catcher

6) “Photograph the Dream”

In delivering his speech, MCA Media Publicity Deputy Chairman Lau Chin Kok shared that “to dream is the biggest gift in life. The participants who present may have a common dream. Therefore, the ten winning entries reflect the aspirations of young adults.” Encouraging everyone to leap out from the theme’s frame, he explained that “dreaming is not limited to photography only.”  

“We will continue to provide everyone with a platform, and wish that everyone will help to promote the competition, so that the quality of the competition will be better and more professional the next time,” Chin Kok who is also the MCA Youth Technical and Vocational Education Training Bureau Chairman assured.

“Through the 10 winning short video clips, we can conclude that Malaysian youngsters are  unflinching although faced with difficulties and dare to chase their dream. Such commitment coincides with the spirit of the competition’s theme: “Dare to Dream.”

Chin Kok added, “from the technical level, although these entries did not reach an absolute professional level, victory is secured through their thought provoking stories while the visuals were presented smoothly.”

In particular, Chin Kok singled out the triumphant entry “My Movie Dream”: “It fully demonstrates about how a 1980’s male who is keen on movie making aspires to achieve his dream to be a moviemaker despite hailing from a poor family.”

In view of MCA’s commitment to education holistically, Chin Kok pointed out that “besides as aspirational storyline, this winning entry also highlighted how MCA’s institutions such as UTAR have assisted poor students to fulfill their dreams of pursuing further studies. The competition enabled more people to learn about the contributions of MCA and fulfilled the purpose of organiser to informs youngsters more about MCA.”

The “Dare to Dream” short video clip competition was organised by the MCA Headquarters Publicity Department.
