Celebrations for MCA’s 70^th Anniversary – “Provide Check & Balance: Prioritise Public Opinion”

It is my honour to announce the launching of celebrations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of MCA. As the anniversary of  MCA’s founding on 27 Feb 1949 falls on tomorrow or Wednesday,  the festivities this year will be held at Dewan San Choon, Wisma MCA on Saturday, 2 March 2019  commencing from 9.00a.m.     

MCA members across the ages, representatives from the Chinese guilds and associations as well as NGOs have also been invited for the celebrations.

The platinum jubilee of MCA holds significance as it marks the first anniversary which we are holding after BN lost our hold on Putrajaya. MCA as part of the BN coalition is no longer in the federal government. In this context, MCA turning 70 is also a very important anniversary as we can expect our party President Datuk Sri Dr Wee Ka Siong to launch a new way forward, A Renaissance for MCA.

The seventh decade of MCA is also a turning point for the party. For a change, we intend an image makeover where we aim to project a young, vibrant and energetic MCA.

Certain aspects of the celebrations’ programme retain elements of former years. For example, speeches by the Organising Committee Chairman cum Secretary General of MCA or myself, and by the MCA President will be delivered. There will be the inspection of the MCA Youth guard-of-honour and their marching in to raise the Jalur Gemilang as well as the party flag in addition to the yearly gala performances.

However, the difference is that MCA wants to bring young adults leaders to the frontlines.

Dr Wee Ka Siong will launch our Government Monitoring Group, and we will start this project by promoting our youths.

6 young adults from Wanita MCA and MCA Youth comprising 3 females and 3 males will share with the audience what they believe people would like to listen to. This programme is called “Vocal”. Each of the 6 speakers is given 8 minutes and they will speak in either one of the three languages, that is, Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia and English.

This programme is our way of showcasing our young talents. It is MCA’s plans to promote and groom these youths because MCA believes that these young adults are our party’s future.

Nevertheless, their appearance does not simply mean that MCA only provides opportunities to youths. They are being groomed as our party has a succession plan. We need to create the atmosphere and spirit where the young and experienced may work and learn from each other.

The namelist and backgrounds of these young adult speakers are attached herewith.

MCA’s succession planning does not begin and conclude with these 6 young speakers. They are the alpha. MCA is recruiting and searching for more young talents internally and from outside the party.

In conjunction with the party anniversary theme of “Provide Check & Balance: Prioritise Public Opinion”, the launching of the Government Monitoring Group by the Party President aims to symbolise the beginning of MCA’s role as a check-and-balance against the PH government so that we will become an effective Opposition.

We intend to give a clear direction to party members – our plans to move forward, and how we are going to be an effective Opposition.
