Condolence on the passing of Balakong rep Eddie Ng: Govt must tackle road safety issues

MCA Selangor expresses our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Eddie Ng Tien Chee over their sudden loss of the DAP Balakong state Assemblyman who was involved in a car accident in the early hours of this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this tragedy.

It is our party’s hope that the Ministry of Transport will pay attention to the frequent incidences of road traffic accidents, especially in cases where vehicles collide with a heavy trailer vehicle, or when there are fatalities in car crashes involved in road accidents after nightfall.
 
Former MCA Cameron state Assemblyman Choong Ching Yan was heavily injured in a similar scenario.

The Ministry of Transport and Road Transport Department are urged to comprehensively investigate this case and others in order to prevent similar accidents from recurring. Road safety authorities are also urged to propose more appropriate and secure solutions, including preparing electronic tracking and warning devices, road traffic handling system. Additionally, assigning traffic officers at accident-prone lanes will also be helpful.

The Pakatan Harapan government is also urged to pay close attention to the health issues involving its elected representatives.  Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mat Shuhaimie Shafie succumbed to lymphoma cancer on 2 July 2018. Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin just underwent surgery to extract a pancreatic tumour, while Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin suddenly fainted and fell off the platform during a monthly briefing on 9 July 2018; and this morning’s latest accident claimed the life of Eddie Ng.

The rakyat should understand that the tasks of elected representatives are enormous. They have to concentrate their roles in political matters, deliberate and serve the public. If federal and state legislators decline an invitation to an event, or depart early from a function, it is hoped that other attendees can understand.
