DAP's empowerment of PAS led to cancellation of “Better Beer Festival”

1.         The strongest opponent of the now cancelled “Better Beer Festival 2017” event in Kuala Lumpur was PAS.

2.         It seems that extremism has prevailed in the decision to cancel a festival that had been held many times in the country before this.

3.         The rights of non-Muslims enshrined by the Federal Constitution were completely and utterly ignored in the decision by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to reject the organisers’ permit application.

4.         The strongest disagreement of the event was from none-other than the DAP which empowered PAS which eventually voiced out their objections through several of their leaders.

5.         PAS which was empowered by Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng over the last two general elections, does not only find themselves in the Kingmaker position gearing into the next General Election, but also capable of influencing decisions like these.

6.         This is what DAP has created and what we have to live with: Decisions like these rob the rights of the non-Muslims and even the country that would have benefited from the tourism mileage the event would have garnered.

7.         Now we have the Perlis Mufti Dato’ Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin who was reported as saying, “What has halal polygamy got to do with beer festivals? Are such festivals not linked to adultery with women, which defiles honour in all faiths? (The Malaysian Insight, 19 Sept 2017)”

8.         So, I guess now they view a beer event in such a manner in which they describe women in such a manner, which is the most ridiculous and sexist statement we have heard in a long time.

9.         This is what happens when you empower extremists and DAP has to shoulder the blame and accept that it is because of them, extremists have grown so powerful in the country.

10.       So, I urge DAP leaders to stop putting up an act to defend the rights of non-Muslims when it was their actions that led to where we stand now.
