Press Statement by MCA PJ Utara Division Chairman Tan Gim Tuan

DAP D’sara Utama rep’s unfounded accusations against MCA won’t stop MCA from delivering on building public services facility

I refer to DAP Damansara Utama state Assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin’s attack on MCA over a piece of land in SS25 applied and approved by the Selangor State Government. Despite statements of assurances from MCA that we will build a public service facility and use the land for public purposes, Yeo continues to confuse the public on our sincerity and commitment.

As political opponents, I understand that Yeo and her personal assistants (who are now appointed Majlis Bandar Petaling Jaya [MBPJ] Councillors) need to follow the “script” to attack MCA incessantly to secure their own political future. They have also given false accounts of fruit trees being planted and forced eviction of squatters on that piece of land. Many of these appointed MBPJ Councillors may not even know the actual facts as they are not from Petaling Jaya in the first place.

But make no mistake that MCA intends to deliver on our pledge despite the scurrilous and unwarranted attacks by Yeo.

To address Yeo’s claim that MCA should return the piece of land to the state government if our intention is for public purposes, allow us to highlight the present State and Local government’s inability to maintain existing Public Facilities in Petaling Jaya.

Members of the public have consistently complained about the conditions of Public Facilities especially Community Halls which have been under the maintenance of the Petaling Jaya City Council for the past 10 years under the present elected representatives’ leadership. The deplorable condition of the Community Halls and Public Facilities is reason enough for anyone including the MCA to not have much faith in the government agencies under the present State and Local Government to get the job done. What is worse is that we begin to see a flurry of window dressing exercises to show minor improvements on public amenities that coincide all too well with the approach of the General Elections to come, instead of a plan of consistent improvements throughout the years as was promised.

MCA will fund the development and maintenance of these public services facilities because we have the capacity to do it.

No, this is not a boastful statement from MCA. We do have the knowhow and expertise. We have set up UTAR on both private commercial land and on State Approved land. Until today, UTAR operates under an independent panel of professionals and educators. The benefits and value of such an education centre is priceless to the society and is an example of what MCA can achieve for the community.

We are still waiting for Yeo to clarify on what basis they claimed that the land was valued at RM 400 psf. Is this the value of mixed development or commercial high rise development similar to the developments in PJ Section 13 and Taman Megah which were recently approved by the elected Petaling Jaya representatives and Petaling Jaya City Council members under Pakatan Harapan’s leadership.

In fact, in terms of giving back to society, MCA has done a lot. All talk and no action can only lead to the detriment of the community under our care.

It is important that we make full use of our resources for the benefit of our local community. At the same time we must preserve all those good things that we inherit from the past. We are disappointed that the present elected representatives cannot even get their own government agencies to maintain the community halls that BN built and handed over to them when they won the right to be the government in Selangor. Politics aside, we just want to get things done for the good of the people.

Talk is cheap. No point trying to divert attention or discredit MCA, when you failed to deliver.

MCA has already declared that we will build a public services oriented facility on the piece of land. No one should keep blaming MCA or Barisan Nasional for their own failures. For those not willing to help the community, get out of our way. We got this.
